About The Maker Lab

Stormy Sailors Maker Lab is an independent maker studio based in Edmonton, Alberta. We turn useful ideas into software, tools and small-batch products, developing each project from an early sketch through testing and refinement.
Founded by Dennis “Captain Stormy” Cox, a Canadian Navy veteran, the Maker Lab brings practical problem-solving and creative experimentation together.
What We Make
Projects range from QR tools and software to workshop systems, creative experiments and small-batch goods. The equipment changes; the curiosity tends to stick around.
A Maker Lab is more than a workshop. It is a place to test an idea, learn what works, and make something useful from it. Sometimes the result is a line of code. Sometimes it is a new tool, a better process, or a product made by hand.
Built on a Naval Foundation
Years of service in the Royal Canadian Navy shaped the way we approach a project:
- Think ahead and stay organized.
- Solve problems calmly.
- Adapt when conditions change.
- Take responsibility for the result.
- Leave things better than you found them.
Our Philosophy
Think Like a Captain. Play Like a Pirate.
Plan carefully, own what you build, and stay open to a better way of doing things.
Think it through, give it a try, and if it goes sideways, call it research.
Have a Look Around
Explore the projects, follow the work in the Ship’s Log, and see what’s taking shape. We’re glad you found us.
